Chad, Eric, and Charlie then search the property for areas where the water might be coming out. However, he discovers that the bottom is still flooded. The area quickly began to flood after the hole was drilled. The Ollingers would need to find a way of removing the sediment that was now filling their access holes. Eric suggested that the sediment be tested for gold. The group dug out the sediment, and found raw gold as well as a Spanish-made gold coin. These discoveries were proof that there must have been more gold in the caverns, which are almost two miles long.Įven though much of the sediment was removed from the original access hole the hole remained underwater. Duane decides that he will dig another hole to try to find dry access points. Duane digs a vertical hole measuring 30 feet, which costs $6000. They appeared to have been underground for quite some time. Duane described being able touch the noses of the frogs and causing them to hop away, as if he were not there.
